Internship: new media, communications and IT

 

About us

 

ECRAAL – European Centre for Research in Asia, Africa and Latin America – is a non-profit membership organisation supporting the engagement in EU research and education policies, also concerning funding of

actors and players from Asia, Africa and Latin America. ECRAAL is a flexible and operational Brussels based platform to boost the active participation of non-European players in the formulation and take-up of EU research policy and education opportunities, including funding.  It is integrated into the Euro scene in Brussels due to its location and accreditation with the European institutions. ECRAAL is an alliance to promote the interests of institutions and research intensive companies of non-European stakeholders and players before key institutions of the European Union and its regions.

 

The role of the internship


We are looking for an intern, who will mainly work on communications, ICT and establishing our distance learning platform. This internship should be part-time, but a full-time position may be considered provided the candidate applies for a Leonardo placement (http://ec.europa.eu/education/leonardo-da-vinci/doc1018_en.htm). ECRAAL’s offices are located in Scotland House, at the strategic heart of the EU institutions. This position offers therefore an excellent networking opportunity: as part of the ECRAAL staff, the intern will be able to meet officers from the EU institutions, other companies and NGOs, and meet other interns from around the world.

The internship will last 3 months (potentially to be extended for other 3 months) and is unpaid, although some costs may be reimbursed subject to prior agreement with ECRAAL administration.  The intern's work may also include involve covering certain communications and ICT needs of CERI (http://www.ceritalia.eu), the European Centre for Italian Research, also located at Scotland House.

 

Qualifications and general experience

 

1.      Fully IT literate. Experience is required on:

 

                     a.    print and/or web communications

                     b.    new media (e.g. Twitter)

                     c.    website creation and editing

                     d.    RSS feeds

                     e.    Distance Learning platforms

 

2.      Fluent in English (mandatory). The knowledge of French, Spanish, and Portuguese is an asset

 

3.      Familiarity with EU policy and funding programmes, and experience working with EU institutions and/or              research institutes would be a plus

4.      Enrolled at, or already graduated from University/professional schools. The candidate must be under the          age of 25

 

5.      Strong writing skills, highly motivated, flexible, organised and able to work as part of a small team

 

Main duties and responsibilities

 

-         Support in developing communication instruments for ECRAAL (and occasionally CERI), their projects

          and partnerships with research institutes

 

-         Support in developing communications instruments on EU funding schemes and policy issues related to

          the six ECRAAL research clusters (food, agriculture and biotechnology; energy; environment and

          climate change; security; health; ICT and nanotechnologies) and disseminating this information to our

          members

 

-         Support in Website updating

 

-         Support in Project/ event management from the communication, IT, media viewpoint

 

ECRAAL office is located in Scotland House, at the strategic heart of the EU institutions.
